Urbana Lignum shows how trees are fitting in urban context and try to answer to simple questions such as why we neglect them? and how did we manage to their importance in the every day life of every form of life on the planet . it seems that we no longer remember their function, not only because they represent a fundamental element of our ecosystem but most importantly because the benefits coming from their presence are many ,including reduction of the air pollution, provide shelter to animals but most importantly they help us reduce the stress and have benefit the of the habitant.
Trees also shaped the landscape we are surrounded by due their aesthetic and became elements of adornments, especially around the city where the green have became almost inexistent.
The project documents how different species of trees are growing in our neighborhood, in different shapes which is due the families that they belong but with particular attention in response to the environmental challenges that trees have to face living in urban environment, making every species unique in their genre and perhaps representing one of the best example of evolution in urban context.
It seems that threes are also functioning as elements to preserve our memories in relation places and spaces, resisting to urban changes and expansion, adapting themselves to the constant changes that are affecting our cities.
Urbana Lignum (urban trees) is a long term project focused on the different aspects in which threes are leaving and existing as entities.
Since the urban landscape have developed as a result of human actions, the vegetation living in such environment is the result of human decisions.
Taking in account what mentioned above, it’s our responsibility to document how the vegetation developed in relation of most recent developments, perhaps with a particular attention to suburban settlements highly built, where trees are constrained to go beyond walls or in front yard and in backyard of houses and building blocks.
Yet their presence (especially in urban areas) help us reconnect ecosystem that we are gradually destroying, with no regards for the future generations.
In a almost defeatist way this project reveal my concern in matter of deforestation and de-humanization of the environment we are living in.
Sincerely I can’t imagine to live in a place with no trees or where else there is a serious deprivation of them, probably because I used to live in a place where I was surrounded by lush forests and their presence always influenced me positively.
I can’t deny to feel extremely sorry for all those people who can’t appreciate their presence and especially for the youngest generation that can’t even barely recognize them.
